Artist Statement:
This painting is a monochromatic study in black and white of a young pine cut down when around 25 years of age as subject matter. The process of decay has progressed to the point that the bark scales are loosening away from the wood and mold and bacteria have discoloured the wood itself.  Decay fascinates me. Decay is essential to our survival as it helps to recycle materials in our environment. There is beauty in death. This is painting and would look stunning on a feature wall.
