Artist Statement
This self-portrait is a glorification of the immigrant woman, all those women who are searching for a better future for their kids, all those women who are searching for intellectual growth, for all those woman who cares about their environment. It is a glorification of myself as woman, as mother, as daughter. It is the representation of my status between God and Devil, it is my glorification as a human being.
Artist Biography
Zaira Ramirez Luis (January 6, 1987,) is a Latin-American painter, printmaker, sculptor and photographer, granddaughter of Spanish immigrants and native Venezuelans. Zaira’s inspiration was her Canary artisan grandfather who worked with remarkable Venezuelan sculptors. Her first approach was film photography as a student in the Nelson Garrido Organization, a diploma in the Visual Arts School Cristobal Rojas, and now is coursing the BFA in the UFV.
In her artistic practice, she implies her memoirs as the main theme reviving places and states of feelings, her palette is the studio of folk contemporary Venezuelan paintings. She likes to explore surrealism and neo-expressionism. Her main theme is her status as an immigrant woman.
