The Allure of Water - Kate Major

Artist Kate Major

Artist Statement

Because most of my favourite subjects include the many faces of the ocean and the serenity of quiet lakes and rivers, the theme of this exhibition is  “Drawn to Water”.  I love trying to capture the moods of the water and people on the beaches. And anything that has a connection to water.

About the artist

Kate is a self-taught artist who started drawing and painting at a very young age. She was inspired and received encouragement and ideas from her Dad who was a wood carver.

Over the span of her painting activity, she has painted as K. Cuvelier as well as K. Casey and better known by fellow art group members as Kathy. These days it’s Kate Casey Major. (K C Major)

She is a past member of the Association of Atlantic Amateur Artists, Mississauga Artist Workshop, The Abbotsford Palette Club and The Port Kells Artists. After years working with oils, her medium of choice for the past 20 years is pastels. Now she is exploring water colours and acrylics.

Kate is drawn to the oceans, rivers, lakes and all their moods. Happy just to sit and watch and capture the water on paper or canvas. Also she is a feel for old buildings, vintage cars and anything found sitting and forgotten. These have been featured in many of her recent works. Kate has painted pictures for many people – portraits of children, cherished pets, barns, boats and old vehicles. She has also illustrated a series of Early Learning books for Dawn Adamson, an Early Childhood Educator.

As a theatre member, she has painted props and backdrops for Surrey Little Theatre and Langley Footlight Players. Kate is a member of the Langley Arts Council and has displayed her work in the Incognito Shows as well as other Open Calls.

Now retired and living in Pioneer Park, Kate is an active member of the Art Group in this community and is creating more than ever.
