Artist Statement:
Trees do not heal; they seal a wound by forming callus tissue around the edge of the wound. This new wood will eventually cover the wound. This Western Larch stands in a garden and with the lower branches pruned. Lichens, mosses, and other life forms enjoy the nutrients provided from the exposed inner bark as the trees production of sugars are transported down from the leaves through the inner bark and down towards the roots.
