Artist Statement:
My work is primarily a representation of traditional film & darkroom photography, which is a perfect fit to the Fraser Valley landscape. We live in such a diversely beautiful country that lends itself well to the passionate expressions of visual artists.
The practice of photography is indeed, a work of passion from all aspects in the image making process, i.e., composing, processing, and printing images in a traditional darkroom. The hard work of image making may seem counter-intuitive when at the click of a button so much can be done electronically, but for me it’s not always about doing things because they are convenient, but because traditional photography is cognitively satisfying hard work. I also find my time in the darkroom to be therapeutic especially when it results in a finely crafted gelatin-silver fibre print.
Artist Bio:
In the early 21st century, Bob was grateful to be granted the Canadian Association of Photographic Arts Maple Leaf and Associate Fellowship Awards for photographic achievement, service and exceptional contributions to photography. He has also had the pleasure of exhibited and winning national & international awards with his fine-art images. Bob primarily works with medium and large film format lens and pinhole cameras and enjoys the challenge of constantly working to better himself as a photographer and a darkroom craftsman from processing film to printing silver gelatin fiber black and white prints for optimum permanence. Finally, one of Bob’s other passions is to teach photography and explore alternative imaging processes when the opportunity arises.
