Artist Statement:
Outside The Room was created in collaboration with the Uninvited project, a Feminist, written response to Plato’s Symposium (https://www.uninvitedproject.com/). A common motif in my work is the relationship between the female body and the natural world. The women being uninvited from the discussions of Plato’s Symposium suggests that they were banished to the space outside the room, which I interpreted to be nature. This sets the context for my work. While reading the text, I imagined women wandering and gathering in nature, having their discussions amongst the trees and in fields. Connecting, discussing, creating, and existing together in nature.
