Jessie Na

Artist Statement:

Jessie’s artworks explore the relationship between reality and ideal. She was interested in the desire for happiness and eternal life so she created her own utopia with dreamlike
scenes and surrealistic elements. She likes to focus on images that offer observations and hidden messages. To give imaginary experience, she combines realism with abstract
figuration.

Source of inspiration and the base for her works came from asian traditional thoughts of longevity. The symbols of longevity deal with natural objects. Ten symbols were all objects of long worship, and they were in accord with primitive faith. Through this idea,
she depicted the imaginative world to give a feeling of utopia. She has been fascinated by the asian folk art which made her think deeply about ancient history.

Her works include the modern adaptation of the motif of folk painting, which was freely desired to escape from the oriental ideology of the disciplinary masters, and provide an opportunity to heal the wounds inflicted in reality by contemporary people.
