Jacqueline Stuerzl

Artist Statement

The Simplicity series is a distillation of my artistic style. Every painting starts with splashes of colour in acrylic inks and high flow acrylics to give life and movement to the piece. In this series I allowed this stage of the process to shine. While everything has intrinsic magic, there is also the structure and geometry in life that helps hold that magic in place. This is what the negative spaces in white represents in the pieces, the structure behind the colour and magic of life. I chose my figures from a place of beauty and calmness, and ultimately ended up highlighting women and houseplants.

Artist Bio

Jacqueline was born and raised in the verdant prairies of central Canada. She grew up surrounded by a latticework of farmers’ fields coloured in the blue of flax, yellow of canola, and nodding heads of sunflowers. After a trip to BC when she was 8-years old and seeing mountains for the first time, Jacqueline knew she was meant to live amongst them. Following her heart and emotional connection to the landscape of BC, she moved to Abbotsford in 2011, and more recently resides in Chilliwack.

At her core, Jacqueline is drawn to the magic and beauty of the natural world, whether in the majesty of its landscapes or the whimsy of its creatures. She is moved by our connection to it as a species, and finds inspiration from her personal memories of moments in nature that left her feeling as though she had bumped up against something greater than our everyday experience. Jacqueline’s art invokes a feeling of wonder, magic, and deep reverence for our environment, and our role within it.

With her recent move to Chilliwack, Jacqueline’s studio now resides on the doorstep of the Fraser River, and is surrounded by the Vedder and Cheam Mountain Ranges. Currently, she is working through the intensive Mastery Program through the Milan Art Institute to further commit herself to her passion of creating art.
