8 1/2″ x 14 1/2″ Watercolour and Ink framed $290.00

Artist Statement

In my paintings I try to recreate the rich greens and purples, the ever changing blues and greys, the rolling waves and clouds, the sea stacks, headlands, mist, rocks and rugged beauty of coastal B.C.

For almost 2 decades I have been paddling local rivers and lakes year round and making annual kayak trips to the west coast of Vancouver Island.  Paddling in swells, surge channels and along the shores of tiny islands I collect memories and images to recreate in my paintings.

I choose watercolor as my medium because of the movement and light created when water pulls the pigments across and into the paper.  There is immediacy, a commitment that denies hesitation when working with water color that reminds me of paddling.  The brush moves the color through the water on my paper just as my paddle moves me through the water in my kayak.

My goal in painting is to capture  the joy I feel when I am paddling and to inspire that joy in others.
