Artist Statement:
I love painting white spruce bark! Every bit of it is beautiful in its own way. This tree had bits of bright yellow lichens in the bark crevices, and I transformed them into 24 carat gold. The black geometric straight-line element seems to ground the drawing, so the bark scales are not floating in ethereal space. This spruce was found in Manning Park.
