Erica Tjart

What a strange time we are living in, where we have to remind ourselves that  home is the safest place to be. When I walk through my front door these days, it truly is so good to be home.

Since I normally work in collage and acrylic, I was more than happy to transform every item given to me including the bag and the instruction sheet which I painted on to become leaves of a welcoming flower wreath. I wanted to create as many “happy botanicals” as I could: the shower puff became flowers, the pipe cleaners became fronds, and the washi tape became stems. I used glitter all over the piece and the bottle became a Covid19 time capsule for my family’s thoughts about the summer of 2020. I drained the tube of blue and brown paint to create a midnight sky and I’m pretty sure my piece is half made of glue.

My hope is to invoke feelings of magic and happiness when people see my creation.
