Artist Statement
This piece was an intense labour of love and patience, definitely the longest its ever taken to complete a work at over 8 years. I began not knowing where the end would be, hoping that it would appear instinctively. I initially wanted this work to not only be beautiful, put practical too. But the more time I committed, the less functional it needed to be and it became an affront to think of this work as what it began – that is a rug. Its importance grew and I found the only solution was for display, with the ability to be tactile. It is meant to be supersaturated in colour (like most of my works) with a plethora of movement. I’m always thinking about balancing colour. It is finished with upcycled leather straps (from and old purse) and a Fir bar (an old Christmas tree).

Born and raised in a small Ontario town, Leanne was keen to get out and explore the world as early as possible. A previously unknown health issue came to the forefront and she underwent major brain surgery. After this experience her perspective on life and how she wanted to live it changed. The eternal optimist, where the main goal is happiness within and for all those around me.
