Artist Statement
My photography is mainly based on 1 thing and that is the beauty of my surroundings. Since I am still young it’s hard to travel and explore the world, so I mainly take photos of things around me that I find to be beautiful. I like to do pops of colour in my photos and I really enjoy taking photos of animals and plants. There are some pieces where I go away from the beauty of my surroundings theme. For example my Covid Series really shows how overwhelming everything in the world feels right now. Although my photography is meant to show themes of calmness, connection and comfort, I do believe that showing moments of fear is crucial to do because I’m not the only one that feels that way. Connecting through my art is something that I try to do through each piece (some more than others) because I believe it’s very easy to feel alone in this world and no one likes to face it alone.
Artist Biography
I started taking photos when I was about 14. I was very lost with who I was since I was just entering freshmen year with a head injury. Anyone who has had a head injury understands how disconnected you start to feel. I went from a kid that was always talking and making friends to a shy, timid person who seemed to have lost her voice. Then in gr. 10 I decided to take a photography class and I haven’t looked back since. I found my voice again, I found a way to express how I was feeling without having to say anything. Whether that was taking a photo of some plant or doing a project on Covid-19, photography helped me feel not so lost anymore while giving me an escape from the overwhelming world.
