“….and I found a feather” (cat)
There are always at least two sides to the account of any recounting of an incident; Player A, Player B and the truth which lies somewhere in the telling. What we hear and see is always impacted by our own thoughts and biases. Did the cat find a feather, or is this the cat who indeed swallowed the proverbial canary?.
“Hippo in the Sky”
About this work – Nothing is impossible. If we think it we can dream it. This image came to my mind along with a rhyme that became lodged in my mind one day;
“Hippo in the water
Hippo in the sky
Often times I wonder
Can hippos fly?”
I couldn’t forget about flying hippos so I created an illustration of a flying hippo.
“Happy Horse.”
About this work- I have had horses in my life since I was a child. I was a shy and solitary child – animals were my best friends – and my horse was my best friend. I created this image to be playful and happy. There is nothing happier than a horse chowing down on an apple after their work is done. ( Although no horse should ever receive a whole barrel of apples) I chose bright colours, the horse is fat and happy – and a bit sassy. This is the image of the horses I recall from my childhood – a bit sassy – but direct and honest and ready to play.
Personal Statement: I love to play with ink, pastel and pencil crayon to create images that even in these difficult times might bring a smile to the face of the viewer. I love animals, and seek to illustrate all species with a playfulness that may resonate with the child within all of us. I have worked in poetry, fiction and journalism, but have played with various mediums throughout my life.
