Let Them Eat Cake
Abigail and Emily Doyle
Concrete Sculptures
Not for Sale
Artist Statement:
Three sculptures, moulded from their own bodies, dressed as cakes. Depicting the body’s labour, which has been baked into cakes ready for consumption. While inspired by online trends such as “Almond moms”, preventative botox, and their own skincare routines they tried to image this culture as an edible object. The cakes are messy, colourful, and made out of concrete. This was done to represent the stereotype of the soft nature and ditsy aesthetic lots of women are told to have, yet they have a strong interior. Playing into the theme of the exhibition these sculptures are tangible objects of human bodies, taking what you are seeing in the other pieces and making it real.
