Course Overview:
This visual art course is designed for adults of all levels who wish to explore various mediums and techniques in drawing and painting.

Participants will learn the principles of composition and design, colour, values, focal points and edges. The classes will be led by community-based artists and members of the Central Fraser Valley Graphic Guild.

Course Duration:
6 classes, starting from April 22-May 27, 2023.

Course Logistics:
• Classes will be held on 6 Saturdays, starting April 22, from 3:00-4:30pm
• Classes will take place at the Kariton Gallery, located at 2387 Ware St, Abbotsford, BC V2S 3C6
Pre-Registration is required 
• The fee is $60 for all 6 classes
• Participants should bring their own materials, which will be specified by the instructors at the
beginning of each class.

Class Outline:
Class 1: Introduction to Drawing Skills
• Basic drawing techniques and materials
• Shading and values
• Drawing from observation
• Composition and design
• Learning how to use different materials such as charcoal, pencil, and ink.

Class 2: Watercolour Painting
• Introduction to watercolour materials and techniques
• Wet-on-wet and wet-on-dry techniques
• Colour mixing and theory
• Landscape painting
• Exploring the use of colour, value, and composition in watercolour.
• Learning to create different textures using watercolour.

Class 3: Acrylic Painting
• Introduction to acrylic painting techniques.
• Understanding the properties of acrylic paint.
• Brushwork techniques
• Abstract painting
• Creating a painting using acrylics.

Class 4: Multimedia Techniques
• Collage and mixed media
• Texture and layering
• Image transfer
• Exploring mixed media techniques.
• Learning to use various materials such as collage, found objects, and texture paste.
• Creating a mixed media artwork.

Class 5: Composition and Design.
• Understanding the principles of composition and design.
• Learning to create dynamic compositions using the elements of art.
• Developing a personal style in creating artwork.
• Understanding the importance of focal points and edges in artwork.
• Learning to create emphasis and balance in artwork.

Class 6: Using your skills
• Creating a final artwork using the skills learned in the course.
• Students will apply the skills and techniques learned in the previous classes to create a final project
• Emphasis on composition, design, colour, and values
• Individualized feedback and critique
